CONTROLLING OUR NARRATIVES: A BLACK QUEEN'S STORY
The Great Experiment with Shonda Rhimes
“My God, Don’t You Get It?”
At the dawn of slavery’s demise, we still weren’t free until we started doing it for ourselves, and even as we forged our own way, there were others who did their best to thwart our success. What am I saying? I am saying that this must stop. The great experiment has no heart. The great experiment failed … until now.
so what is required? It’s simple. Justice, Mercy, and Love.”
~ Micah 6:8
Art changes the world and reflects the dreams and visions of others. Art is essential to the well-being of society because, after all, Art is love. Art is the best of us and is solution-based. Art addresses an issue, not with platitudes or manipulation. Art addresses it with love, focus, desire, and so much more. Art is not the same for everyone and that is the beauty of it. It requires a willingness to try. A willingness to expand our consciousness and a willingness to fail, and start over. Artists see what others do not, and in their efforts, new ideas are brought forth and old ideas are reformed.
Artists are scientists. They explore. They create theories and can be systematic in their efforts while chaotic in their passion. Art does no harm. Art judges not as much as use the discernment of the artist to imagine a better world.
~ Robert Heinlein
Therefore, Art gets it done.
For centuries, we have been trying to reduce our world to black and white, the two polarities, binary in nature. We forget that the world is a tapestry of so much more, and for those who continue to try to put this world in a proverbial box, the artists of the world are not limited in their actions. Art is who we are. It is not about color or ethnicity, but it is about culture and the dynamics of diversity. We are the people of life’s longing for itself. We are the salvation of a world going mad. However, the madness needs artists to take note of this impossibility (justice, mercy, and love), and take to artistry in all its forms and get it done.
~ P.K. McCary, An Artist
